Brad's Story:

Brad grew up in Zanesville, OH, and went to high school at Maysville. He has been active in some type of sport his entire life, playing many team sports through high school (football, basketball, track, and cross country) and then became involved in endurance sports (cycling, running, duathlon, triathlon) while attending Ohio University. His passion for athletics and fitness has extended into his career as he taught Physical Education at Maysville Elementary for six years before moving to Asheville, NC, just over a year ago. In Asheville, he has worked at The Rush fitness center as well as serving as a teacher's assistant in Brevard HS.

On June 1st, Brad was involved in a collision while cycling. He has been unable to feel or move his legs since the event. He has also developed Guillain Barre Syndrome, a rare condition that has caused upper body paralysis and respiratory muscle weakness. After spending 30 days at Mission Memorial Hospital in Asheville, NC, Brad was well enough to make the ambulance trip to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, GA, to begin rehab.

The outpouring of support we have received thus far has been tremendous. Cards, emails, fundraisers, food, thoughts, and prayers have helped in many ways--but most importantly they have helped to lift Brad's spirit. It has been very touching to see how many people care.

Brad is committed to working hard to regain as much function as possible. He knows he has a long road before him, but his long term goals are to walk and ride his bike again. Your continued support will be an important component along his journey.
